Our History

Since its inception, the office that is known today as Southwest Florida Oral & Facial Surgery, P.A.  has undergone transformations from a one doctor, one location practice to a multi-doctor, multi-location oral surgery practice to the current structure of two office locations and four oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

Our office that now practices as Southwest Florida Oral & Facial Surgery was originally established by Dr. Gerald Laboda in Fort Myers, Florida in July of 1965.  It was the first oral and maxillofacial surgery practice in Southwest Florida.  In 1968, Dr. Frank DiPlacido joined the practice and partnered with Dr. Laboda for over 37 years.

In September of 1986, the practice moved into a new facility on Summerlin Road in Fort Myers.  Shortly after settling into this new location, Dr. Timothy Hogan joined Dr. Laboda and Dr. DiPlacido in 1987 and Southwest Florida Oral Surgery Associates was formed.  In 1990, Dr. Mark Streater became the fourth oral and maxillofacial surgeon to join the practice.

In an effort to take care of the needs of our patients and referring doctors in our community,  Southwest Florida Oral Surgery Associates expanded into a second location in the Cape Professional Arts Building on N. Del Prado, in Cape Coral, Florida.  This satellite office was opened in 1991 and we continue to provide care to patients there today.

Expansion continued in 1998 with the addition of Dr. Harvey Satz, D.M.D. to the Fort Myers location, who created a practice based on diagnosis and treatment of facial pain to include temporomandibular joint disorder.   In 1999, the practice officially changed its name to Southwest Florida Oral & Facial Surgery, P.A. in order to more accurately reflect the scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery performed.

We welcomed Dr. T.J. Tejera, D.M.D., M.D. to our practice in March of 2003.  Dr. Tejera completed a fellowship in facial cosmetic surgery in Greensboro, North Carolina, increasing the scope of procedures performed to include facial cosmetic surgery.

Dr. DiPlacido, after practicing for over 37 years, retired in December of 2005 and was followed by Dr. Laboda a year later, in 2006.  Dr. Laboda, the founder of our practice, served the community of Southwest Florida as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for over 41 years.

In March of 2009, Southwest Florida Oral and Facial Surgery, P.A. moved from Summerlin Road in Fort Myers into the current location on College Parkway, a state-of-the-art medical office and ambulatory surgery center facility.  Our doctors and team are proud to be a part of our long heritage of quality oral and maxillofacial surgery care in Southwest Florida!
